My daughters birthday is on the 16th and I have not been able to make a dinner reservation for a big group. Will a cast member be willing/are we allowed to put candles on a dessert item from whichever restaurant will have walk up space that day?

    Hello, Sharayah!

Welcome to planDisney, and happy early birthday to your daughter! Celebrating a birthday at the Disneyland Resort is so much fun, whether as a child or an adult.

I did some searching in the Park Rules and Regulations (and chatted with a Cast Member, Sonia, as well) and confirmed that you're welcome to bring your own birthday candle into the park with you. You can also try bringing a couple of matches or a small lighter, however, it's up to the discretion of the Cast Member at Security to allow anything into the parks. Because the resorts are non-smoking, you may not be allowed to bring those items. I would recommend bringing just a couple of matches rather than a lighter and keeping them in a bag with your candle. If you aren't able to bring your own matches, I would try kindly asking a Cast Member if they are able to light a birthday candle for you.

Now, let's talk about the sweet treats you can put that candle in! You'll find cupcakes and other delicious items at Jolly Holiday Bakery and Cafe on Main Street, U.S.A., and some version of dessert is offered at most quick-service restaurants. However, for a group meal, I would recommend Plaza Inn at Disneyland Park! Reservations are recommended for breakfast, but they don't take reservations for lunch and dinner. Lunch usually starts at noon, and you'll spot guests lining up around 11:30 AM. But don't let the line put you off, because it usually moves quickly and the food is great! This is also one of the locations where I think you'll have an easier time finding a Cast Member who can help you with lighting your candle in a slice of their delicious cake.

One of my favorite Disneyland Resort traditions is the complimentary celebration buttons available from Guest Relations locations in the parks. Be sure to get a button for your daughter so everyone knows it's her birthday! My second favorite way to celebrate a birthday (or any day) at Disneyland Park is to get a quick (and also complimentary) sprinkle of pixie dust from the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Just ask one of the Fairy Godmother's Apprentices and they'll make sure your birthday girl is sparkling with happy thoughts!

Your magical trip is just around the corner, Sharayah! I hope this information helps as you prepare to celebrate your daughter at the parks. If you have other questions please let me know!

    Keep moving forward!
