Hi there, Kathryn,
Welcome back to planDisney. It's a pleasure to partner with you again as you look forward to new, magical experiences aboard your next Disney cruise.
My children have also loved the immersive and engaging experiences in the Disney Cruise Line's youth clubs. Sadly, our children somehow haven't found a way to heed Peter Pan's advice to never grow up. But even as we have watched them advance from Disney's Oceaneer Club (ages 3 to 10), to Edge (ages 11 to 14), to Vibe (ages 14 to 17), and beyond, it has been a bittersweet experience to see them explore and experience the world in new ways.
The age ranges for each of the youth clubs on the Disney Cruise Line are firm. But just because your daughter may not be eligible to participate in designated programming hours of the Oceaneer Club after she turns 11, it doesn't mean she won't be able to enjoy the amenities and experiences of the Club after that. Fortunately, Open House hours are relatively frequent. So even Guests like me, who may have grown up physically but still cherish our inner child, can dive into the magic of the beautiful spaces and features of the Oceaneer Club.
Although it may appear that Edge and other youth spaces on Disney Cruise Line ships don't offer the right fit for a given child, the magical connection can often be found not just in the spaces but in the people. I recommend stopping by Edge on embarkation day to speak with the counselors. While they cannot provide one-on-one care and support for each participant in the club, they may be able to help facilitate appropriate engagement and enjoyable participation with the counselors and the other youth in the club. I recommend asking about which scheduled activities they believe would be enjoyable and appropriate for your child. Their combined experience and training may very well come up with some unexpected yet surprisingly great ideas to help your daughter have a wonderful time during your cruise.
Each child is different and has different expectations and tastes. Some of our children, especially our special needs children, have been somewhat reluctant to attend all of the exclusive programming offered by their age-specific youth clubs. When they haven't found a particular activity or event in the youth clubs that suits them, we have fortunately found that the ship offers plenty of other opportunities for entertainment and enjoyment. Our favorite activities have been family crafts and animation classes. Our children have also enjoyed time in the pools, watching movies, and interactive displays and games on the ships.
I hope you find magical experiences that are practically perfect in every way for your daughter and your whole family, Kathryn. Please don't hesitate to reach out again for any specific recommendations you may desire.
Have a great cruise, Kathryn!
