Hi, my daughter recently broke her hand and is wearing a hand cast. I am curious if this will limit her access to rides at Animal Kingdom, especially the Avatar Flight of Passage.

Hey Howdy Hey Crystal and welcome to planDisney!

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter's situation with her broken hand, that stinks she will have to wear a cast on her hand during your trip. You bring up really good points on her potential limitations when it comes to experiences in the parks so let's review some options.

The first place you should start is with a conversation with her doctor. Her doctor will be able to best guide you on limitations for your daughter when it comes to attractions in the parks. Depending on their guidance, some weight bearing through her hand might be allowed to the extent the attractions require or her doctor might give you guidance that she should not do this by any means. Most of the options when it comes to the parks should be guided first by her doctor, so make sure to start there for specific restrictions and then discuss further with the Cast Members. You might want to ask about the weight-bearing status of her arm specifically through her hand as well as on her forearm which may impact her riding capabilities.

Based on the guidance of her doctor, you can take that information to Cast Members that are greeting Guests in front of all attractions. You can let them know her limitations and ask for any adaptations or suggestions they may have. You would be surprised with how many creative ways they can come up with to get Guests to attractions for all capability levels and limitations.

There are also so many other great experiences that I would highly recommend that you experience when at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park. Maharajah Jungle Trek and Gorilla Falls Exploration Trails are both really great experiences that may be overlooked. These Self-guided walking tours of these areas are experiences you cannot get anywhere else. These walking tours give you so much insight into the habitats of the animals and the animals themselves with Cast Members around to give you more insights into what you will be seeing. A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King is a show in the park that gets the whole family involved. This spectacular show has returned with a fun and energetic environment that should be on everyone's "Must-Do" list!

I hope this information was helpful to give you some guidance on what to expect during your upcoming trip. Please feel free to reach back out if you have any further questions, we would be happy to help!

    Have a Magical Day,
