My daughter is having a baby in September and we are cruising from fort Lauderdale to both private islands on the Disney Wish December 19-23, Can the baby travel with just a birth certificate?

Ahoy, Julie! Welcome to planDisney, where we aim to answer all of your questions about Disney Cruise Line to set you up for smooth sailing.

Unfortunately, a baby born in September will not be eligible to sail aboard the Disney Wish in December because of the minimum required travel age. Disney Cruise Line requires its smallest guests to be at least 6 months old on the day of sailing. The only exception to that rule is that all guests traveling on the Transatlantic, Panama Canal, or Hawaii itineraries must reach their first birthday prior to embarkation day.

Although I am sure that this is very disappointing and will interfere with the family cruise plans you were making, I am thankful that you are finding this out several months ahead of time. If you would like to reschedule your cruise for 2027 when the newest member of your family can join in the fun, then you can modify your reservation online. You can make many of the changes yourself by logging into your MyDisney account on the Disney Cruise Line website. Click on the “Already Booked” tab at the top of the main page and select “My Reservations” under the section labeled “My Disney Cruise.” Once you access your reservation page, click on “Modify or Cancel Reservation” to see available options, including changing your sailing date. If you need assistance or have questions about changing your sailing, then you can also always reach out to Disney Cruise Line directly at (800) 951-3532. Cast members are available to speak with you Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM EST, and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM EST.

Finally, to answer your original question about required travel documents, an original state-issued birth certificate for a United States citizen who is 15 years of age and younger is typically sufficient documentation for round trip Bahamian cruises departing from Florida. However, the requirements are always subject to change, so you should check closer to sailing for the most up-to-date information.

I wish you the best of luck getting your family’s cruising plans in shipshape condition based on this new information. If you have any other questions, then please feel free to reach back out to us at planDisney. Happy sailing!
