My daughter (7) has just broken her leg 2 weeks before our Disneyland trip - how will this affect our trip? Any tips? We will have a wheelchair with us. My son is turning 6 on one of the days we will be there. Any tips on the best itineraries?

    Hello, Leanne,

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s injury. I understand your trepidation surrounding your upcoming visit to the Disneyland Resort. Our family once visited the theme parks soon after one of our children suffered an injury as well. There were a few concerns along the way. But, overall, we were able to enjoy our visit to The Happiest Place on Earth immensely.

Here are some items to consider for your trip.

There are a number of attractions that can accommodate guests who must remain seated in a wheelchair or ECV. If your daughter is able to transfer from her wheelchair to a ride vehicle, you may be able to experience even more attractions. If you choose to experience some of the more thrilling attractions available, be aware that sudden accelerations or stops may be involved. I recommend consulting with your medical professional to understand any risks of re-injury or significant discomfort. Many attractions also feature Rider Switch service. If there are any of these attractions that your daughter is unable to experience or that she simply wishes not to experience, you may still be able to use Rider Switch to allow the remainder of your party to experience them without having to wait in the entire attraction queue twice.

I’m excited to hEAR about your son’s birthday. Celebrating birthdays at the Disneyland Resort is a marvelous idea. I recommend that you start by picking up a complimentary button at one of the Guest Relations locations. My children have enjoyed choosing a favorite dining location to visit on their birthdays. My recommendations for a child turning six include Goofy's Kitchen where he can meet some of his favorite Disney characters or Flo's V8 Cafe where he can sit and watch race cars zoom by on Radiator Springs Racers. If your Jedi Youngling happens to be a Star Wars fan, some amazing Star Wars-related activities include building a custom astromech droid unit at Droid Depot in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge or creating a customized toy lightsaber at The Star Trader in Tomorrowland. And, of course, there are plenty of amazing attractions and entertainment options suitable for your little Mouseketeers.

Happy birthday to your son! And best wishes for a speedy recovery for your daughter. Please come back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel with any additional questions you may have.

    See ya real soon, Leanne!
