Hi! my daughter and her 2 best friends are thinking about going to Disney world to celebrate their high school graduation! 2 of them will be 18 at the time, and 1 will be 17. Does a parent need to go with them, or are they old enough to go by themselves?

    Hi Susan,

This is really one of those decisions that only a parent can make.  Technically, they are old enough to travel on their own, and Walt Disney World is one of the safer places to do something like that.  I'm sure they would have a wonderful time!

As a parent of a child who is not far from this milestone, I might be inclined to plan my own trip, maybe overlapping the graduates.  That way you would be able to check in and make sure they were safe, without hovering too much.  You might want to just meet up for a celebratory meal (or two).

Hope this helps. Congratulations to the grads!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
