What date do the Christmas decorations come down? I’m traveling the 9th - 12th of January so I’m not sure I’ll make it to see them!

Well hi there Rebecca, and welcome to planDisney!

January is one of my absolute favorite months of the year to visit Walt Disney World Resort - from the cooler temperatures to avoiding the holiday crowds, there's even a little sweet spot where you can glimpse the remnants of Christmas cheer before they begin taking them down at the start of the new year in an overnight blitz that's just as speedy as when they put the decorations up. Now while there's never any exact date ever posted publicly nor made available for guests to anticipate, here's my experience from this past January that you might find helpful:

    • This year we checked in at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa on January 9th for our Disney Wedding, and as we stepped into Magic Kingdom Park that evening we were delighted to discover that the Christmas decorations were still up at the entrance and down Main Street, U.S.A. though we noticed that they had already begun removing elements from certain spots around the lands.
    • When we asked, Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons team assured us that the decorations wouldn't be up for our wedding day, as we weren't really leaning into having a Christmas-themed celebration. Sure enough, everything had been taken down as of the 12th and we entered Magic Kingdom Park once again completely transformed - which was certainly a surreal feeling for our wedding guests!

Something to take note of is that most Cast Members we encountered seemed to be just as surprised to see the decorations seemingly disappear, and they let us know that they aren't always given notice of exactly when the overnight un-decorating process will take place. Here's hoping that you'll still be able to catch a glimpse of the glitter and sparkle at the start of your journey! While you're here, don't miss the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts that opens on the last day of your visit; this could be the perfect week to experience both a little bit of holiday cheer with what I consider to be my favorite festival to kick off the new year! Wishing you the most magical Disney adventures at the start of 2024!
