Hi Robin,
Yes, the
cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground are a fabulous option for a family of six. It's wonderful to have a full kitchen at your disposal. I think you'll also enjoy the amenities at this rustic resort. I'm guessing your kids will love the pools and activities at Fort Wilderness. If they want to ride bicycles, take a horseback ride, or learn archery, this is the place to do it. You're also only a boat ride away the Magic Kingdom.
You are certainly not required to purchase the Disney Dining Plan as part of your vacation package. You may not feel you need the Disney Dining Plan if you wish to prepare some of your meals at your cabin. There are some tasty
dining options at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. If you're looking for pizza or nachos, head to Crockett's Tavern. Trail's End Restaurant has a hearty, reasonably priced buffet. If you're looking for a dinner show, look no further than the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. If you take a short boat ride to Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you'll find one of my favorite quick service restaurants, Roaring Fork.
While I think Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground would serve as the backdrop for an amazing Disney vacation, another affordable option you may want to consider is a family suite at
Disney's All Star Music Resort. The advantage to this option is the availability of two bathrooms and three separate sleeping areas for your party of six.
Good luck making your decision. If you need any additional advice, don't hesitate to let us know.
Best wishes,
Jill
