Moms and Dads, Questions from my autistic adult daughter Joanna ... 1. What hotel can I stay at where I won't hear the fireworks and 2. What restaurant or ride can I do so I won't hear fireworks? Loud noises hurt & trigger my autism but I love WDW. Tha

Hi Rochelle and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Thank you so much for your questions, Joanna!

I have a son that has sensory processing disorder, and he is also sensitive to sound, and we've found that wearing ear muffs (we get ones for kid-sized heads from Baby Banz) help him tremendously!  On our last few trips, we've even been able to stay IN park and watch the fireworks rather than taking cover.  Depending on how sensitive you are, they might work for you as well.  Of course, you should look for adult-sized ear protection.

    1.  There are many resorts that you can hear the various fireworks shows from (in the distance) and this has never bothered my son, but it also depends on how sensitive you are.  If you are looking for a very nice, VERY quiet space, I would HIGHLY suggest Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.  Because of all the animals and their sensitivity to loud noises, they are pretty far away from all the 'action' so to speak.  Also, we find it lovely and so peaceful there.  A great place to relax after a day in the parks.

    2.  At Magic Kingdom, I would choose an indoor attraction like Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, where you'll be indoors for an extended period of time, and they noise from the show will help block the fireworks.  I would stay away from anything too near Fantasyland, as that's where the action takes place.

At Epcot, we stay away from World Showcase as they are shown over the lagoon there.  Many times we take a spin on The Seas with Nemo & Friends (around 9 pm) and spend some time exploring after our ride.  There's tons to see and do in that particular pavillion!

At Disney's Hollywood Studios, you can grab a late dinner at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, or Pizza Planet. You can also ride Toy Story Midway Mania as well!

Have a magical vacation and THANK YOU for your question!
