Hi Moms & Dads! We are planning a trip for Jan 2013.Seasoned Disney guests & DVC members but never traveled in Jan.What week is better crowd wise? Week of Jan 12 (which is marathon weekend) or week of Jan 19 (which is MLK weekend) myself, DH, &

    Hello, Erica!

As a seasoned Disney Vacation Club traveler, you're wise to take into consideration the pluses and minuses of travel during either of these two weeks!

We've traveled to Walt Disney World during a marathon weekend and MLK weekend and have noticed that the crowds tend to be a little bigger when folks have a day off from work and / or school.

That being said, however, during the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon, we found ourselves on a resort bus with quite a long detour to Kidani Village one evening. The race route had closed down one of the roads for vehicle travel, and while we got a really interesting view of some normally unseen buildings in and around Animal Kingdom Park, our ride home was about twice as long as it would normally have been. In addition, one of my Moms Panel buddies just ran the January marathon and felt that the parks were very crowded this year, even in the days after the race.

I suppose, then, that you could consider that the levels will be up on both weeks; however, the days of the January 19th week which are NOT over the long weekend might actually be a little lighter.

Best of luck in making your choice!  Welcome Home!
