Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Michele!
As much as I adore Lady, Tramp,
Slinky Dog, and all their puppy pals, I'm also allergic and have to "squee" from afar when it comes to non-magical doggies. Luckily, at Walt Disney World, I can get lots of snuggly hugs from
Pluto and his pals without the sneezes, asthma, and itchy eyes!
My daughter is dreaming of getting a dog (seriously, every time we tell her we have a surprise, she thinks it's a puppy), so on our recent visit, she noticed every service animal we encountered around the Walt Disney World theme parks and resorts. We even found the service dog relief areas! Walt Disney World is committed to providing a magical and comfortable stay for all Guests, which of course includes those with disabilities, and
service animals are welcome in many areas around the theme parks and resorts.
Just this past weekend, we spotted service dogs in two Walt Disney World Resort restaurants. I checked with a Cast Member, who told me that service dogs are welcome in dining locations as long as they are well-behaved. She suggested that you add a note about your dad's allergy to your dining reservations so that the Cast Member seating you can accommodate his needs and seat him away from any dogs that may be in the restaurant. You can do this at the time you book your reservation using the
My Disney Experience mobile app (there's a space for notes at the end of the reservation process) or by calling (407) WDW-DINE. If there are other special needs he has due to the severity of his allergies, a Cast Member at that number can assist and answer any questions you may have.
There are
First Aid stations around the theme parks that carry medications and supplies, and you'll also find medical assistance in the resorts should your dad experience any severe allergy symptoms. We've had great experiences with the Cast Members who provide this care, and while I hope you don't need to use their services, it's sure nice to know they're there.
On behalf of Pongo, Perdita, and all the Disney dogs, I'm wishing your dad a safe and enjoyable experience as he dines at Walt Disney World, and your whole family the most wonderful time together in The Most Magical Place on Earth.
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
