My Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and wants to do a "bucket list" vacation with his granddaughter before he passes. He will be fatigued during our trip and waiting in line will be tough, would he be eligible for Disabilty services?

    Hi Kellyn,

Thank you for stopping by planDisney!

I am happy to hear that your family is choosing to celebrate your lives together at the Walt Disney World Resort this fall.  Multi-generational travel is such a precious thing and I know your family will make some amazing memories that you will always cherish.

Kellyn, I recommend that your dad reach out to the Cast Members to see if he is eligible for Disability Access Service (DAS) for your upcoming vacation.  This service is designed for people who due to a disability, are unable to tolerate or use the standby queues.  It sounds like your dad may benefit from this service, so I highly recommend pre-registering between 2 and 30 days of your arrival.  The benefit of pre-registering is that, if approved, a Cast Member will help you book 2 one-hour return windows for select attractions or experiences for each day that you are visiting a theme park.  These DAS Advance planning options are in addition to any DAS return windows that you may select while you are in a theme park after your arrival.  When your dad is ready to pre-register and do a live video chat, he can click on the link in this page between the hours of 7 AM and 10 PM Eastern Time for Registering for Disability Access Service.  It sounds like you are the planner in the family, so it may be a good idea to help set this up and be with him when the call is made.  However, since your dad will be the Guest with DAS privileges, he does need to be present for the video chat.

If your dad would rather wait until he arrives to register for DAS, he may do so at Guest Relations at the main entrance for any of the theme parks.  He won't have the DAS Advance planning selections, but he (or you can on his behalf) will still be able to request DAS return times in his My Disney Experience App just like all DAS Guests.

I hope this information helps you plan your upcoming family "bucket list" vacation!  Please come back and ask all of your vacation planning questions here at planDisney.  We would be honored to help you plan your family's vacation.
