What is a customary tip for the room attendants at the hotels? And do they expect this daily or just at the end of your trip?

Hi Alisha!  There are two thoughts to this question when answering. Some people think that a daily tip is the right way to go as there can be changes in who cleans your room. However, all tips are supposed to go to a general fund that all attendants share so I leave a tip at the end of the stay. I try to even put it in an envelope and leave it with the head of housekeeping with the names of our room attendants if I know them. I also include the turn down attendant if we have that service as they are different from the daytime ones.

For the turn down service I leave about $2 a day and for the day service I leave anywhere from $5 to $10 depending on how many people were in the room, if they did anything special for us during our stay etc.  You certainly do NOT have to tip at all if you don't feel the service merits it or it just can't fit into your own budget. This is not a mandatory thing and you won't find less towels in the bathroom on your next stay if you choose not to tip!  Because we are repeat guests at some of the resorts we have actually gotten to know some of the housekeepers by name and that has been fun!
