Currently WDW’s Covid policy specifically lists clear the way with a clear back pack. I know in the past WDW security checked all bags but it seems this is stating a change with Covid. Can you add clarity to this?

Hi Julie, and welcome to planDisney!

Thank you for reviewing the guidance and health and safety measures the Walt Disney World Resort has put into place as we Return to a World of Magic. It’s so important to take the time to prepare before our Incredible visits to ensure the health and safety of ourselves, our fellow Guests, and Disney’s amazing Cast Members. As the East High drama club members put it (sing it with me): “we’re all in this together!”

While clear backpacks are encouraged for the ease of bag check and security processes, Edna Mode has confirmed that these are “not mandatory, just fashionable.” As long as you are adhering to the Park Rules and current health and safety guidance, you’ll be all set. The current Park Rules note that bags are subject to inspection by Walt Disney World Security Cast Members, and that they must be no larger than 24” long by 15” wide by 18” high. Please check the Park Rules to ensure you are not bringing prohibited items into the theme parks.

Julie, as you move through the security checkpoints, you will be asked to remove metal and other specified items from your backpack before proceeding through metal detectors. I like to organize my backpack with clear resealable bags to make it easier for Security Cast Members to search my bag should I be selected for a bag search. This also avoids contact with the items inside my bag. I also like to store a few extra resealable bags in case any of our items get wet or dirty, or we want to save extra snack items for later.

As part of Walt Disney World Resort’s phased reopening, some operating procedures and guidance are subject to change, so I encourage you to continue to check the Know Before You Go web page and read the Disney Parks Blog as you count down to your visit. We sure appreciate your efforts to stay aware of the most current guidance! Please come back and see us here at planDisney if we can help with any further questions as you count down to your visit.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
