Hello! I was curious if the tent camping at fort wilderness ever closed down for the colder seasons? Thank you for your response in advance!

Hi Breelin and welcome back to planDisney! A stay at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is a unique experience. The rustic and serene vibes make you feel like you’re not at Walt Disney World. Now, let’s talk about how the weather may impact the Resort!

The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort operates year-round and does not close in the winter. As someone from the Northeastern U.S. who goes camping in the fall and winter, I suggest packing a sleeping bag rated for colder temperatures if you decide to camp at Fort Wilderness during the colder months.

However, Disney has closed the Campsites in the past when hurricane warnings have been issued for the Orlando area (in the extremely rare event that a hurricane should pass through!). While Disney does their best to accommodate guests by offering alternate lodging, each situation is different so I suggest taking a look at Walt Disney World’s Hurricane Policy for more information on how a hurricane can affect a Disney Resort stay and theme park operations. In general, if a hurricane warning is issued for the Orlando area within seven days of your arrival, you can cancel or re-book your vacation without any cancellation or change fees, so long as your booked your vacation directly through Disney.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about some of my favorite things to do at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. There’s so much fun outdoor activities there, including running and biking along the network of trails, as well as renting kayaks and canoes. You can also embark on a fishing expedition and channel your inner Goofy with that “perfect cast” to reel in a big one! And for me, no trip to Fort Wilderness is complete without checking out the popular Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue!

Breelin, I hope this gives you some insight into what may affect Fort Wilderness Resort operations and hope you consider this Resort in the near future. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me and my fellow panelists here at planDisney!

    Your pal,

    Sean
