Also, I am curious about pin trading How many pins would you recommend to have before getting started?

Hi, Jennifer! We started each of our four children off with their pin-trading adventures with a starter pack we purchased at the parks.  I think each of the packs come with a lanyard and four or five pins which we have found to be the "magic" number (in weight) for little ones.  The more you add, the heavier it gets -- which means YOU will end up carrying them or folding them away in your mommy bag or backpack.

Our kids enjoy trading them with cast members, yet they learned quickly that the lanyards are too cumbersome to take to the parks. Therefore, we usually reserve our last day (check-out day) to trade pins with cast members at our resort.  It gives the kids an activity to look forward to when we're picking up a last-minute gift for the neighbor who is getting our mail at home, or we're using the last few snack credits on our Disney Dining Plan!  Through the years, we've also found occasions to add pins to each child's collection -- whether it's being brave or tall enough for a certain attraction or having a special experience at a park or event or with a certain character.

My husband and I have even joined in on the pin-trading craze with several of our own, and we have pin-trading nights occasionally as our family "game night."  Yet, pin trading can get expensive!  You have to put a limit on the buying since you can spend the equivalent of a vacation on your collection before you know it!  Keeping up with them is a challenge as well. At home, I keep all the pins, extra backs and lanyards in a plastic bin in the closet where we keep our luggage.  That way, I never forget them...yet, sometimes I don't choose to bring them! :)  I hope this gives you a good start to your pin-trading endeavors.  Let me know if you have more "pointed" questions...I love a good pun!  Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
