We are cruising on the Treasure in April, and my daughter wants to run the 5K at Castaway and earn a medal. Does she have to run with the others, or can she do it on her own and still earn a medal? Thank you!

    Hello, Thomas!

Welcome back to planDisney. I am excited to hear that your family will be sailing on the Disney Treasure soon! It sounds like your voyage will take you to my favorite tropical destination, Disney Castaway Cay!

I have good news! The Castaway Cay 5K is a completely unofficial race, which means you can start pretty much whenever you want, as long as you finish before it is time to head back to the ship. There’s no set start time, no assigned groups, and no registration to worry about. Just show up, run it when you’re ready, and enjoy the island vibes while you do it!

To begin, she can head over to the little starting spot by the bike rentals on Castaway Cay and just… go. No check‑in, no fuss! Cast Members should be around that area if your daughter wants to see an overview of the map. My pal Dustin also pointed out that it is a two-loop course, so she will run the same path twice before she is done. After both laps, she can head back to the bike stand and grab her Castaway Cay 5K medal. Woo hoo! It’s the perfect way to start a relaxing day at my favorite tropical destination!

Keep in mind that there are a few rules when it comes to children leaving the ship at this time. Parents can typically fill out a Minors Ashore Approval Form during the online check-in process or at Guest Services onboard the ship to let kids 14 and older debark the ship on their own at Castaway Cay. She will need her own Key to the World card (basically a key to your stateroom) when she heads ashore. Anyone younger than that needs to be accompanied by an adult from the same stateroom.

Thomas, have a wonderful voyage! We hope to see you real soon!

    Happy sailing!
    Jen
