Hi there ... we are cruising in January and my son and I both have Celiac Disease which requires a strict gluten free diet. I've been told that they will accommodate this but I would like to know if there are lots of options available for us.

    Hi, Tracey!

I completely understand your concerns as you rely on someone else for your food sources for several days -- especially as a mom. However, you are in great hands.  I recently had the opportunity to talk to several members of the Disney Cruise Line (DCL) Food & Beverage Team including a couple of chefs. They reassured me that guests with food intolerances and allergies are not only welcome but encouraged to completely inform the team of their food requirements and requests.  This is best done prior to sailing -- as soon as possible or at the time of booking.

In addition, I would take an extra precaution to inform the DCL Food & Beverage Team by emailing them your concerns and requests at in advance of your sail date. Plus, check at Guest Services onboard on Embarkation Day to make sure that your needs are noted on your reservation and with your servers at dinner each evening.

As far as what I have personally observed for food choices, it seems that there are several whole food options at breakfast, lunch and dinner at the quick service locations and at the buffets. I try to opt for a piece of fruit or some sliced veggies during the day to "save" my calories for the dinner options.  The last piece of advice I will offer is to make sure that the Food & Beverage Team is keenly aware of your dietary needs if you're visiting Castaway Cay, too. It's not a long walk back to the ship to eat, but if you're out having fun in the sun on the island, the last thing you want to do is to interrupt your day by having to think about your food choices there.

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
