Ahoy, Deborah!
What a great time you and your grandson will have on your first cruise! You're in for an awesome vacation on the beautiful
Disney Fantasy.
Fish Extenders, created by fans of Disney Cruise Line, are fabric pockets that guests hang from the metal fish wall ornament on the outside of their stateroom doors. (Thus the name Fish Extender - they extend from your fish!) Guests bring little gifts to share with other cruisers who participate, and leave trinkets and surprises in the pockets during the cruise. Not all guests participate, but it's really a fun experience for those who do!
Cruisers that would like to participate in the Fish Extender fun can find more information on Disney Cruise Line discussion boards such as DISBoards.com, or by googling "DCL Fish Extenders". There are also Facebook groups created for specific sail dates. Custom made Fish Extenders can be purchased on craft sites such as Etsy, or lots of guests make their own. You can find lots of ideas for Fish Extender gifts on Pinterest!
This gift exchange tradition is only found aboard Disney Cruise Line, and is a wonderful way to meet other like-minded cruisers during your Disney Cruise vacation.
I hope you have fun joining in on the Fish Extender tradition! Please let us know if you have any more questions as you get ready to set sail with Captain Mickey and his crew! - Diane W.
