Hi! Cruising for the first time next month and we are so excited!! Is the Dyson hair dryer and diffuser attachment allowed on board? I know the ships provide blow dryers, but diffuser attachments typically don’t fit on those. Thank you!

    Welcome aboard, Jessica!

How exciting to be looking ahead to your first Disney Cruise Line vacation next month. There’s truly nothing like it, and you’re going to have an incredible time! Based on your sail date, I’m not sure if you’re headed to Alaska on the Disney Wonder or to the Bahamas on the Disney Wish but either way, you will be looking fabulous!

While this specialty electronic isn’t on the list of prohibited items, I can see why you ask because the Dyson hair dryer is like no other styling tool! Unfortunately, Disney Cruise Line requests that Guests do not bring this brand onboard as the amount of electricity required to power these futuristic devices is simply too much than what the staterooms were designed for. This could pose a potential safety hazard, so please leave your Dyson hair dryer at home for your next cruise.

I typically set up my hair and makeup station in our stateroom at the desk/vanity area. There are plenty of outlets and great lighting, plus space to keep my hot styling tools out of the way from the split bathroom counter space. A standard hair dryer is provided in your stateroom. Look for the hot pad mat provided in one of the drawers to protect the vanity desktop – just lay it out and then place your hair tools on top when using them and while cooling them down after use. Your stateroom host will help keep you organized with the cords as well (one of my favorite little treats on a Disney Cruise Line vacation)!

If you’re headed to the Bahamas, I'll share that I tend to dry my hair only a few times on these itineraries – mostly for special events like adult-exclusive Palo Brunch or Formal Night. Otherwise, I get too warm and tend to go with a product plus scrunch and keep things looking beachy! This also saves time when returning from an exciting Port Adventure and doing a quick turn to get ready for dinner. I adore wearing hats, so I typically pack a baseball cap and a woven sun hat. We recently sailed to Alaska, and I blow-dried my hair more frequently because I didn’t want to go outside in the chilly damp weather with wet hair as I would in the tropics (but still wore a few hats). Whatever your destination or routine, I know you’ll look great in all of those special cruise photos!

Be sure to review this handy packing list as you finalize the details of this special trip, Jessica. I hope my experience helps you envision what to expect. Please don’t hesitate to send us additional questions that would help you make the most of this incredible trip!

Wishing you smooth seas and stylish waves,
    Amy
