Hi there, Jennie!
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, fellow Texan! I am so excited to “sea” that you have a
MAGICal Disney Cruise Line vacation planned for early next year! While Texas doesn’t get the super cold winters that much of the United States gets, we always do enjoy escaping our winter to some warmer weather and “The Mickey Boat” is the perfect way to do so!
One great thing about a Disney Cruise Line vacation is that you do get the chance to visit unique destinations, but, like you mentioned, we will often opt to stay onboard rather than get off the ship when at port! While we don’t often find ourselves feeling "crowded" on any of the Disney Cruise Line ships, it is nice to enjoy the amenities on port days when there are significantly fewer Guests onboard. And, yes, the
pools will be open as well as most of the other amenities. In fact,
Senses Spa and Salon will often offer “port day specials” that I love to take advantage of! Cabanas will serve a buffet lunch and one of the main dining rooms will be open for a sit-down lunch, if you prefer that, or the quick-service options will be available too! The Youth Clubs are also open, and they will often offer Open House hours on port days too, which is fun because anyone can go play then! Be advised that due to regulations, the onboard shops will not be open on port days, but aside from that, I think you will find all the other amenities accessible!
If you do decide to disembark the ship to put your feet on Bahamian soil, I recommend walking the short distance to the Nassau Straw Market! We will often hop off for a short bit and walk around there, pick up some souvenirs and then head back to the ship for a leisurely afternoon onboard!
As you continue planning for your adventure on the high seas, please come back with any other questions you may have! Wishing you a magical and memorable voyage!
Happy Sailing!
Stephanie
