We are cruising on the Dream in Sept. 2011 what is the proper dinner attire for children and adults? I have been on other cruise ships before but never with my children and I was unsure if they were allowed to wear shorts or if we should stick to dresses.

    Hi, Carol!

Congratulations on your upcoming cruise aboard the Disney Dream -- she is an elegant ship, and you're going to think your living a dream when you sail!

Disney Cruise Line recommends "cruise casual" at dinner in the three main restaurants -- which means no shorts, tank tops or swimwear. If children are wearing nice shorts tastefully, I've never seen them turned away at dinner. However, I often tell my friends and family that you'll want to dress your kids to suit the environment -- just as you would dress up for a nice restaurant or a wedding at home. I also like for everyone to dress nicely in the evening since it's so rare that our family is together, dressed up and has the opportunity to have our photo taken by professional photographers in such lovely settings.

Through the years, my daughter has enjoyed wearing sundresses to dinner on Disney cruises to the Bahamas, and when she was younger, she liked wearing a princess costume, too -- just like a lot of other "royalty" on board. I hope this helps you plan.

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
