We are cruising on the Disney Dream and my husband is interested in the whiskey tasting. I don’t drink alcohol. Can I accompany him to the session or do I need a booking for myself even if not actually tasting?

    Hi Priyanka,

Welcome aboard and thank you for your insightful question about your upcoming cruise! The Disney Dream is such a gorgeous ship – my family enjoyed sailing on this special vessel about a year ago, and I hope we can get back soon. There’s nothing quite like a Disney Cruise Line vacation to escape our reality and just drift away to lots of fun and exciting destinations. Part of the fun is enjoying the wide range of onboard activities for Guests of all ages and interests, so I’m happy to help you understand the process and policies for a Whisky Tasting onboard.

I confirmed with a Crew Member that to be in the facility where the Whisky Tasting is taking place, you must have a reservation for the activity which also means you would be paying for participation even if you didn’t drink. I’m sure this isn’t the news you wanted to hear, Priyanka. Once you’ve made your reservation, you may also wish to visit the location early and speak with the Cast Member leading the program to inquire about your specific situation and see if any accommodation may be made. Typically, once the event begins, they close the doors and do not allow anyone else in the room - and especially not anyone under 21 years of age.

My husband adores the Whiskey, Cognac, and Bourbon Tastings offered on our Disney cruises and always reserves one or two events per cruise. I also drink alcohol but don’t enjoy these spirits enough to join in for the activity fee. These specific tastings are often held later at night (usually around 10:00 P.M.), so it becomes a special event for my husband to enjoy some time to himself on vacation while I either catch a movie on the pool deck or head to bed after a full day of fun in the sun.

My husband especially enjoys the educational component of these tastings, and the passion on display by the Cast Member bartenders leading the event. They often bring out a rare bottle of whiskey that’s hard to find on land, and frequently linger long after the event to enjoy new-found camaraderie among the other Guests. Last year this specific tasting was held at Meridian Lounge, a stunning teak bar situated between adult-exclusive restaurants Palo and Remy, overlooking the sea. It’s definitely a place for lounging into the night after a tasting to ponder life’s mysteries with new friends! I love that my husband can have this unique experience for himself on our vacations, and then we have even more to discuss over breakfast the next day.

I also understand wanting to accompany your husband to this special event, so I hope making a reservation that includes you and inquiring once onboard will be a good solution, Priyanka. No doubt it will be a wonderful activity with lots to learn and stories of connections for years to come!

Please let us know if you have other questions to help you make the most of this wonderful vacation.

    Wishing you a magical cruise,
    Amy
