Ahoy there, Diane, and welcome aboard planDisney! It looks like you'll be weighing anchor and setting sail with Captain Minnie - and in just a few months, how exciting!
Ah, the Wave Phones - like something straight out of "the future" in the final scene of Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress, these onboard cell phones were ahead of their time! And yet, like some predictions of the future, they have been passed by some of the innovations of today! I still remember how excited I was when the Wave Phones were introduced...IT WAS LIKE A CELLPHONE AT SEA!
In any case, I had a suspicion that with current policies and procedures outlined in the Know Before You Go information the Wave Phones may be currently paused as an offering. After pulling into port to check with a crew member, I'm sorry to say I was able to confirm that this is the case and since they are high-touch items they are currently unavailable as part of the health and safety protocols.
Now, while the age of the Wave Phone may have come and gone, I have a couple "planDrew-approved" tips for you to help navigate these rough waters:
- If it's been a while since you sailed last (and let's be honest, the last few years mean that's likely the case!) As long as you have your phone and the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app, you should be able to keep in touch with everyone in your crew! Messaging within the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app doesn't require you to use an internet package, either, so it's smooth sailing on that front as well!
- If you're traveling with some little sailors and would like to know when they're ready to leave Disney's Oceaneer Club or Disney's Oceaneer Lab, the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app will work for that as well! The youth activities crew members can send you a message when your crew member is ready to go - if that even happens! I remember one of the first times we traveled with my nieces and nephews - I honestly think we only ever saw them at dinner with how much fun they had at the youth activities!
I hope that's a map you can chart a course with, Diane! Thank you again for your question. I wish you and your entire crew an incredible time on your upcoming sailing. Oh, I almost forgot - be sure to say "hiya" to Captain Minnie for me, and if you happen across any additional questions as your cruise gets closer, you can always drop us a line here at planDisney!
Until then, I wish you fair winds and following seas!
Andrew
