Hello! I've been on cruise lines where you have the option on your last morning to carry your own bags off the ship and disembark first. Is that an option on DCL?

    Hi, Wendy!

On debarkation day, the ship is usually cleared by around 7:30 a.m. Guests that choose to carry their own bags off the ship will be allowed to leave at this time. I hope your plans allow time for you to enjoy breakfast before you go! Guests with early seating will eat around 6:45 a.m., while guests with late seating will eat at 8:00 a.m. Your final breakfast onboard can be enjoyed at the same restaurant where you dined the night before. All guests are asked to be out of their staterooms by 8:00 a.m.

Guests can also opt to have their larger bags taken off the ship the night before. This makes the final morning a bit easier, since you'll only have carry-on bags to worry about. On the final night of your cruise, you'll receive detailed instructions about the debarkation process, and you'll be given luggage tags. Fill out the tags, place them on your bags, and put them outside your stateroom before the designated time (typically 10 or 11pm) for complimentary delivery to the terminal. If you choose this option, you'll want to make sure to keep all valuables (jewelry, medicines, cell phones, cameras, etc.) in your day bag. Hang on to your Key to the World Card and your photo identification, and remember to save some clothes - you'd hate to have to disembark in your PJs!

Porters are available to help with your bags as you navigate through Customs, so make sure to have some cash on hand for a tip if you use their services. Going through Customs is simple - just present your travel documents and Customs forms (provided for you), and it's a quick process. Soon, you'll be on your way to the ground transportation area! It's never taken my family more than 30 minutes to clear the terminal.

Whichever plan you choose, DCL's helpful cast members will be there to guide you, making it as seamless as possible.

    I hope this helps! - Diane W.
