Ahoy there Stephen! Welcome to planDisney!
Straight and to-the-point, I like the cut of your jib, sailor!
On Disney Cruise Line, "cruise insurance" sails under the colors of the
Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan, and is a great way to keep any previously unforeseen travel issues from washing over your decks and leaving you over a barrel! While it's not a requirement to sail, I strongly suggest adding it when planning your vacation. Simply put, the Vacation Protection Plan gives you the peace of mind that should any covered event disrupt either your ability to sail - or your cruise itself - you won't lose your treasure chest!
Adding the Vacation Protection Plan is easier than making Kronk's Spinach Puffs: during the checkout portion of making your reservation, you'll be given the opportunity to add the Vacation Protection Plan for your entire party. It's calculated as a percentage of your overall trip cost, so I can't be certain what it will cost, but I've always found it to be a reasonable expense for the coverage!
When I was a young sailor, I hardly ever purchased the Vacation Protection Plan, because I was headstrong and foolhardy. Luckily, I never needed to use it, but once I had a few sailings under my belt, I realized it would always be better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it! That way, I would never miss out on
anything that's included in a Disney Cruise Line vacation!
A couple of things to remember:
- Payment for the Vacation Protection Plan must be made by either the final payment date or, the date any charges on the reservation become non-refundable, such as Concierge deposit or air cancellation fees for Restricted Fares like guaranteed rooms with restrictions - whichever is earlier.
- Be sure to review the policy for specifics about what covered events are - not every situation is covered, but most of the typical occurrences that would get in the way of your vacation are!
- Check your credit card policies to see if the Vacation Protection Plan would duplicate any insurance offered in the "itty-bitty living space"(also known as the fine print) of your credit card agreement!
Whatever the reason, I'm glad you've made looking into protecting your Disney Cruise Line vacation, Stephen! That's a planDrew-approved approach, so welcome to the club! I hope that helps you and your crew set a course for a smooth sailing. If you run into any rough waters as you continue to plan, please drop us a line again here at planDisney!
Fair winds and following seas!
