Ahoy David!
Welcome aboard the Disney Parks Moms Panel. There is no better way to kick off the new year than sailing the high seas with Captain Mickey! I am thrilled for you to enjoy all of the
magic included on your voyage to
Cozumel and
Grand Cayman.
In my experience, I have not encountered sand fleas or sea lice in either of these two ports. We sailed in late summer to both of these locations. I did a little digging and from what I found, sand fleas and sea lice are not prevalent in these areas, but can be found at times during late spring and early summer throughout the Caribbean.
There are a few things you can do to prevent bites from these two types of beach bums during your vacation. Check with your
Port Adventures guide to determine if any warnings have been issued for these pests at any of the locations that you are visiting. There are also sun screens and lotions that contain a sea lice repellant that you can purchase online or in drug stores near the port. Wearing swim shirts or rash guards to cover more of your skin during water and sand activities can also help to prevent them from biting your skin. Also, don't forget to rinse off under a shower when possible immediately after you are done with your water activities.
I hope I've steered you in the right direction to prevent any bites from getting in the way of your epic vacation! Cruise back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel if you have any additional questions before you set sail.
"Sea" ya real soon! Angie
