What is cruise casual" dress for dinners? I've read that a few years ago Disney said shorts were acceptable, but on packing recommendations on my cruise reservation it says shorts and tank tops are not acceptable. Are nice shorts okay? Sleeveless tops

    Hi Lisa -

Thanks so much for visiting the Moms Panel and cruising in with your question. The dining experiences on the Disney Cruise is another wonderful part of our vacation that we truly enjoy whenever we sail. Cruise casual does mean different things to different people. I still observe some guests who dress up for dinner and some guests who are more laid back and casual. Do remember that the 3 main dining rooms are elegantly setup with crisp table linens and full dinner settings. My family and I enjoy dressing up for dinner on formal nights, but we still take the time to dress nice enough for the cruise casual nights.

A good gauge of what to wear, would be to wear what you might dress up in, if you were to go out on a date night to a restaurant back home. Usually, younger boys dress up in nice khaki pants/shorts and polo shirts and the young girls wear a cute sundress or nice shorts & a blouse. Parents and adults usually wear pants, capris or dresses. I'm sure there are adults who wear nice shorts and nice tops - I think there are lots of nice trendy shorts and cute tops that ladies can wear nicely. You want to feel comfortable of course, but not under or over dressed. Disney Cruise has made some changes to their onboard dining attire in the recent few years to allow more of a casual look. When dining in one of the 3 main dining rooms, shorts, swimwear or tank tops are not encouraged, though jeans are now allowed. If it's a themed evening, like Pirate Night - then all the pirate gear comes out and even the swashbuckling fun attitudes come along with it at dinner time :-).

Remember that the professional photographers come around the restaurants to take photos at each table. They also setup their Disney Cruise signature backgrounds in the atrium before and after dinner - so it's a great time to take those lovely family photos. These make nice souvenirs.

Hope this helps! Have an awesome voyage!
