I had a cruise booked for April 2020. It was cancelled, and I received a credit for a future cruise. Can that credit be applied to shore excursions?

Ahoy there, Bethany and welcome to planDisney!

While I'm sorry to hear your cruise in April 2020 had been affected by cancellations, I'm thrilled to know you're planning on setting sail again, so let's dive right in!

The great thing about Future Cruise Credit is that as long as you are planning on applying it to a sailing on or before September 30, 2022, you can use it in many ways - and across multiple sailings! If you haven't yet applied your Future Cruise Credit to a sailing (or sailings), that gives you...(counts fingers)...just over seven months to set a course for adventure!

If you're planning on applying your credit to multiple sailings, there's one major thing to be aware of so you have all your Donald and Daisy Ducks in a row: prior to the start of the earliest sailing where your Future Cruise Credit has been applied, any unused Future Cruise Credit will be automatically converted to a nonrefundable Onboard Credit.

Put more simply, as long as you make a reservation for at least one new cruise using your Future Cruise Credit, any "overage" that isn't applied to a reservation will be available to you on that first sailing as a nonrefundable Onboard Credit. Onboard Credit can be used to cover anything that is charged to your stateroom account, including Port Adventures, spa treatments, beverages and more! Please note that credit would NOT be able to be applied to non-Disney Cruise Line or third-party excursions.

Now that you know Port Adventures are fair game for your onboard credit, I'd start exploring itineraries leaving in the next seven months, and then looking for the available Port Adventures on the sailings you're considering! That extra bit of magic from your credit could be applied to anything from a luxurious private oasis on Disney Castaway Cay for the day, to a private tour around a beautiful Caribbean island and everything in-between! If it were me, I'd consider an Alaskan itinerary, as I've heard some of the available Port Adventures are breathtakingly beautiful - what better way to make lemonade out of those cancelled cruise lemons?

Now if your pre-September 2022 social calendar fills-up and you are not able to use your Future Cruise Credit, you will be eligible for a refund up to the amount of your original voyage - but "Adventure is Out There" and I hope there's a Disney Cruise Line Itinerary that you can fit into your schedule in the coming months!

Thank you for sailing our way with your question, Bethany! I hope you find the cruise that's practically perfect in every way for you and your crew. If you run into any other questions while planning, feel free to drop me another line here at planDisney!

May your anchor be tight, and your compass true!
