Hello Susan! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
When I challenged myself to experience as many
Endlessly Magical Experiences in all 4 Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks in 1 day as I could, I attached my GoPro camera to a strap on my backpack and had it take a picture every 10 seconds for my experience.
Walt Disney World Resort Park Rules allow for cameras to be used freely in the Theme Parks but forbids the use of Selfie Sticks and hand-held extension poles for cameras or mobile devices. I have seen Guests asked to put away their Selfie Sticks by cast Members and have heard that they may be confiscated.
I attach my GoPro to my backpack or shoulder harness and have seen other Guests wear them on their heads(my Mickey Ears get in the way). As long as my camera is attached to my person, I have never had any Cast Member ask for it to be removed.
The rule is meant to ensure the safety of all Guests (Selfie Sticks are a menace when navigating Main Street, U.S.A., in my opinion) while still allowing shutterbugs to capture their Magical Experiences. My rule of thumb when using my GoPro is that if it is attached to my person(no extendable arms) or I am using it as I would a regular camera, then I am not creating a safety hazard or being a nuisance to other Guests and I am good to go.
Even tough I take my own photos, I still
take advantage of Disney PhotoPass Photographers and Memory maker as a
benefit for being a Disney Annual Passholder.
I hope you Capture all of your Magical Moments!
