Hi Emily! Welcome to planDisney.
You are going to be arriving at the Walt Disney World Resort later this week. That calls for a WOO-HOO! I’m so excited for you, and extra excited because you’ll be staying at one of my very favorite Walt Disney World Resort hotels. Staying at
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort just feels like vacation to me. The dreamy palm trees, calm waters of Lago Dorado, fantastic pool, and great food at this resort make it a place my family returns to again and again. You’re going to love staying there.
Let’s talk about your plans, Emily. A lot of blogs and people have been sharing the “hack” of using a
Mobile Order confirmation to visit a resort hotel that is within walking distance of a theme park. I’m happy to share my two cents, along with some rules to be aware of, so you can decide whether to take the risk.
As part of the phased reopening of Walt Disney World Resort, some of the rules about visiting resort hotels have changed. Generally, the rule is that Guests may visit hotels where they are not registered guests only if they have a confirmed Table Service dining reservation. Sometimes, the security Cast Members will accept a paid Mobile Order confirmation, but this is not always true.
As for taking an Uber, taxi, or another rideshare, it’s at the discretion of the security Cast Member at the entrance gate whether your mobile order will be enough to be allowed admission. Particularly at Disney’s Contemporary Resort or other “monorail loop” resorts, space is very limited, and many Guests have the idea of making a dining reservation in order to park and walk to the theme parks (which is not permitted).
So, you may attempt this, and you may be successful – but you may also find you’re not allowed to be dropped at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. You’ll likely be directed to the pick-up/drop-off location, which is near the Transportation & Ticket Center, and you would need to take Disney Transportation to Magic Kingdom Park or Disney’s Contemporary Resort from there. If you’re trying to get to Magic Kingdom bright and early, this would slow down your plans significantly.
I will add that during Spring Break season, Cast Members are working hard to manage crowds and create optimal conditions for physical distancing and other health and safety protocols. My bet is that during these extra-busy weeks, there will be less opportunity to be flexible with the rules.
I would recommend asking a Cast Member at Disney’s Coronado Springs resort when you arrive. They can confirm the most up-to-date rules and help you make the best plan to get your delicious breakfast at
Contempo Café. I absolutely love that dining location – they have amazing cupcakes – and am sending pixie-dusted wishes that you’re able to find an easy way to get over there during your vacation.
Have an amazing time at Disney World, Emily!
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
