    Hi I had a couple questions as we are planning a day at Disney next month. 1. What website determines the exchange rate for the first time that the Disney gift card is used? We want to watch and purchase our tickets on what appears to be the best day.

    Using Disney Gift Cards purchased in Canada for vacations down at Walt Disney World Resort to help manage your spending and thereby avoiding foreign transactions fees is certainly something that many savvy Canadians have learned to do! A number of fellow Canucks had similar questions online, and this year I purchased several Disney Gift Cards while visiting family to see whether the Cast Members working around the Disney Resort Hotels and theme parks had any additional insight to share about the way these worked with the exchange rate:

    • As you mentioned, the amount that you have available to you to spend after that first transaction can vary depending on how the Canadian Dollar is doing at that moment. When you complete your first purchase with your Disney Gift Card, the Cast Member should be able to provide you with the remaining balance in USD; I observed that big fluctuations in the exchange rate could mean differences as big as several dollars enough for a snack - depending on the initial value you loaded when you got the Disney Gift Card. It's also a good idea to keep an eye on your transaction history or even consolidate your cards if possible online, just to keep track of it all before every theme park day.
