Hi I had a couple questions as we are planning a day at Disney next month. 5. Our daughter has high functioning autism. Is there any special accommodations that can be arranged to optimize her experience and limit her sensory struggles?

Hi Kailyn! Thanks for visiting planDisney.

Your visit is almost here. You must be excited! Having just experienced the magic of all the holiday decor and tasty seasonal offerings at the Walt Disney World Resort with my family, I know you're going to have the best time. A lowkey activity you might enjoy is taking in the seasonal decor at Walt Disney World Resort Hotels, including large gingerbread displays at select hotels. We stayed most recently at Disney's Contemporary Resort, which features a gingerbread display inspired by Cinderella Castle. It's a great spot to take a family photo and purchase a treat from the nearby cart.

The Walt Disney World Resort is dedicated to being a welcoming and accommodating place for all its Guests. I've visited with friends and family members with disabilities, who took advantage of different services and tools offered. These always helped improve our experience. Before your visit, familiarize yourself with the wide variety of services provided for Guests with disabilities to help guide your park day.

The neurodivergent informational page for Guests might be especially useful. This page offers great advice, guides, and tools tailored to your needs that might help your daughter and your family get the most out of your park day without becoming overstimulated. For example, while my uncle relied on tools for seeing impaired Guests, he also was triggered by certain lights and sounds. We made use of the guide for Sensory Experience Details to know in advance which Attractions might be better skipped. This could help you select Attractions that won't overwhelm your daughter to improve her experience during the day.

The Walt Disney World Resort currently offers Disability Access Service (DAS) to accommodate Guests who would otherwise have difficulty waiting in a traditional Attraction queue. Rather than give eligible Guests immediate access to an Attraction, you select a return time and can enjoy other aspects of the parks, such as a quiet bench and a snack, in the meantime. At this time, DAS can be used by the eligible Guest and up to three additional members of your party. The DAS Guest must ride the Attraction to redeem the return time.

Your daughter may be eligible for this service, but to determine whether she is or could benefit from other tools, you'll need to have a chat with a friendly Cast Member. Your daughter must be present for this online chat. You are currently within the window to have this live chat. There is no onsite option at this time, so if you'd like to see if your daughter is eligible, request your live chat as soon as possible. Terms are subject to change.

I hope you have a magical time!
