Does the Contemporary/Bay Lake Tower have a separate security checkpoint for entrance into the Magic Kingdom? What time do you recommend leaving the resort to arrive at the park and get a good viewing spot for the 7:55 opening show the last week of Nov.?

    Hi Kiley,

If you are travelling from Disney's Contemporary Resort or Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort to Magic Kingdom, you have a number of different transportation options.

The most popular transfer is via monorail (aka The Highway in the Sky), which can be accessed from the 4th Floor Grand Canyon Concourse of Disney's Contemporary Resort. The Walt Disney World Monorail System generally starts operation 1/2 hour prior to the earliest park opening each morning. When accessing the monorail, you will go through a dedicated security checkpoint so that once you arrive at Magic Kingdom, you can proceed directly to the Mickey touch points with your MagicBand or ticket media.

However, my preferred transportation method is walking. Disney's Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower are the only Resort hotels from which it is possible to walk to Magic Kingdom without using Disney transportation. The walk is a short 5-8 minute stroll along a marked walkway, and in many cases I find this to be a faster route than taking the monorail. Note, however, that you will still have to go through security check points upon arrival at Magic Kingdom.

Kiley, if you want to secure a good spot for the Let the Magic Begin welcome show, I recommend planning to arrive at Magic Kingdom at least 30-45 minutes in advance of park opening. Enjoy the show; it's is a wonderful way to kick off your Disney Day!
