Hi there Caroline and welcome to planDisney!
Like so many other guests looking to stay at
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the reopening of the
Doubloon Lagoon pool ever since it first began the refurbishment work last year. I’m actually writing to you as I finish up a meal at
Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory, so I would be happy to walk on over to take a look at the latest developments and speak to the Cast Members:
- From what I can see beyond the barriers erected around the area, the pool remains completely drained and inaccessible, with existing decorative elements protected by plastic as the base structure of the pool itself is undergoing what appears to be intensive surface work. The nearby Mardi Grogs pool bar is also under refurbishment, with guests being redirected to a temporary location instead.
- The Cast Members confirmed that they're currently aiming at April 2024 for these offerings to return and reopen, but there's no guarantee as to whether a specific date will be announced. They recommended that guests looking to stay at the start of the month should be prepared to Ol' Man Island over at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside just in case work hasn't been entirely completed by then.
I'm interested to see what changes we'll notice when guests have access to this pool once again, especially since the work does appear to be beyond cosmetic. Keeping with the spirit of New Orleans and new things on the horizon, it's also been exciting to look forward to the
opening of Tiana's Bayou Adventure this summer and it remains to be seen whether any special beignet offerings at Magic Kingdom Park will rival what the
Scat Cat's Club deliciousness that we've currently got to enjoy! We'll keep an eye on any developments and be sure to share any news on the
Disney Parks Blog, but in the meantime don't hesitate to come back to planDisney for any other tips or advice!
Here's to hopefully making a splash at the French Quarter soon enough!
