Hello! I am considering visiting Blizzard Beach for the first time this summer, but I am a wheelchair user and will be visiting solo. What kind of accommodations are in place and are there any slides I can ride by myself?

    Hey there, Icarus,

I'm thrilled to welcome you back to planDisney with such a fantastic question! A summer visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth is always something special, and I completely understand wanting to cool off with a day at one of Disney’s amazing water parks. There’s no better way to beat the Florida heat than by diving into some fun, and Disney’s Blizzard Beach is an excellent choice for a day full of thrills, relaxation, and plenty of splashes.

As a wheelchair user myself, I know just how important planning ahead can be when it comes to easing stress before your trip, especially when you’re trying something new for the first time. I visited Blizzard Beach for the very first time last year, and while I’m unable to experience the water slides myself, I made it a point to explore the accessibility options throughout the park so I could better understand what was available for Guests who may need them.

Getting around the water park is very manageable, thanks to paved pathways and ramps throughout the area. Beach-friendly wheelchairs are also available, which can be self-propelled and rolled directly into the water for added convenience. In some pool areas, you’ll also find transfer blocks or pool hoists, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.

To access some of the taller attractions, there is a Chairlift that can accommodate wheelchairs and helps Guests reach the higher slide areas. When it comes to transfers, I always recommend using your best judgment based on your own comfort level and mobility needs. There are transfer devices available at certain attractions to make the process easier. Personally, I like to ask a Cast Member if I can see the device beforehand so I can decide whether it feels like the right fit for me.

I also wanted to remind you that if you’re staying at a Disney Resort this summer, you’ll receive complimentary water park admission on your check-in day, which is such an amazing perk. It’s a wonderful way to kick off your vacation with some extra fun right from the start. I’m planning to take advantage of this benefit myself this summer, although this year my family will be heading over to Typhoon Lagoon for our splash-filled adventure!

Icarus, I hope this helps as you continue planning your trip. If any other questions pop up along the way, you’re always welcome to swim back to planDisney.

    Life is the bubbles,
