considering a trip 10/2014. wondering what anyones thoughts are about taking my 14 and 11 year old out of school for a week to go during lower crowd times? usually go during the summer since kids are out of school.would like to try a different time of year

Hi Kristin!  You have some great questions tonight for the panel.

This is a tough one to answer as every school district has different rules and regulations regarding student attendance. It is best to check with your children's schools and teachers to see what the rules might be for vacations.

As a former teacher I am wise to know that a great deal of education and learning can take place outside the walls of the classroom. I always encouraged family time together and Walt Disney World can certainly be a great learning tool for students.  You and the teachers can devise plans and have the children work on history, geography, math and much more during their stay. Budgeting their money and taking care of expenses is great experience. Epcot's World Showcase is a vast area of world geography opportunities.  Disney also offers many good tours that can teach the students about things from food sources to wildlife to just how and why Walt Disney World ever came to be. They also offer student programs under their YES division so that also might be something you can check into and see if the schools would support that.

Summer is indeed  a tough time to visit with the crowds and the heat being tough. If you can get the cooperation from your schools I highly recommend October. Good luck and hope all works out for you!
