Considering staying at Cont. Wanted to know how early the monorail starts running, an hour before park opening like the buses? Does the monorail run during extra magic hours? Worried about getting to Epcot for rope drop. Thanks.

    Hi Sarah,

The monorail schedule is a bit confusing so I will try to make it easy to understand. There are three different "Monorail Loops". The Resort Monorail starts running at 7am every day. You can take this to the Transportation and Ticket Center and wait for the Epcot Monorail to start running. The Epcot one begins at 8am every day which is an hour before park opening. It will run for an hour and a half past park closing as well. The Express Monorail from the Transportation and Ticket Center to the Magic Kingdom begins running 30 minutes prior to park opening. If you are staying at the Contemporary Resort, you won't need to worry about the Express Monorail anyway as the Resort loop stops at the Magic Kingdom.

Since your primary concern was Epcot's rope drop, you would be fine if you are staying at the Contemporary. You'd simply leave your hotel anytime after 7am and get off at the Transportation and Ticket Center. You would then line up for the Epcot Monorail and wait for it to begin running at 8am.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful vacation,
