We're considering our 1st Disney trip in Dec 2013!! We're a family of 7, so we're looking for any discount possible. My husband is military. Any recommendations on avail. discounts for this time of year for a military family? Especially for rooms on site!

    Hi Shana,

First, let me thank your husband and you for your service! Walt Disney World appreciates the men and women of our military and frequently offers special discounts for them and their families.

The Shades of Green resort on the Disney property is an Armed Forces Recreation Center dedicated to military families. Though the resort is not owned and operated by Disney, guests there receive the same amenities as guests at other on-propety Disney resorts, such as free transportation and Extra Magic Hours.

You can check out Shades of Green at www.shadesofgreen.org.

The current Disney military discount promotion offers four-day park hopper tickets to military personnel and their families for a greatly reduced price, and there's a discount for certain Disney hotels. That promotion runs through September 2013. There hasn't been an announcement of new discounts beyond Sept. 28.

Historically, block-out dates have applied to the military discount and others offered by Disney. So, if you are looking at the very busy times in December, the discounts may not be available.

I suggest you watch the Disney special offers website and the Shades of Green site for announcements. You might also want to monitor some unofficial sites, such as www.militarydisneytips.com, for discount news.

I hope that helps and that you are able to find the right time and the right price to bring your family to Walt Disney World. Again, thanks for your service, and please let me know if I can answer any other questions.
