Considering a 1st Disney Cruise in 9/2010. Should we do early dining or late if we want to catch all the shows? Is there a formal night on the 3 night cruises? Do we need a shore excursion to have a good time on Castaway Cay or can we do things w/o one?

    Hi Amy,

Welcome to the Moms Panel, I'm thrilled to hear you are considering a Disney Cruise!  We love taking advantage of the great rates for cruising during September.

One of the things that I love about the Disney Cruise Line is that the shows are scheduled twice each night so you will have the opportunity to attend regardless of your dining time.  If you are in the later seating, you have the opportunity to attend the early show and vice versa.

The evening dress code is typically cruise casual, cruise casual or pirate dress and then an optional dress up evening.  I can tell you from my experience, you will not feel out of place if you choose to dress up, likewise you will be in good company if you are more comfortable on the cruise casual side.

As for Castaway Cay, other than renting snorkeling gear we have never done a specific excursion.  I certainly don't think you need to book one to have a great time, but they do have some pretty cool opportunities available.

Hope this helps, good luck with your decision!
