Hello! I am considering a Disney Cruise for my daughter's fall break October 2016. We have never traveled outside of the United States, I know I will need a passport, but will my daughters? They will be 8 and 10 if/when we pick a cruise. Thanks!

    Ahoy, Amanda!

I'm happy to hear you're considering a Disney Cruise as a fall break vacation next year - what fun! Your daughters are in for the most magical vacation ever.

At this time, U.S. Citizens sailing with a "closed loop itinerary" (departing from and returning to the same U.S. port) are able to use a valid Photo I.D. and certified birth certificate to board the ship and re-enter the country. Children need only a birth certificate (make sure to have certified copies, with the raised seals). Your stateroom will have a safe where you can store them during your sailing. That being said, passport regulations are always changing, and Disney Cruise Line "strongly recommends" that all Guests have a valid U.S. Passport. If you were to encounter an emergency (medical emergency, emergency stop in a foreign country, late return from a non-Disney excursion causing you to miss the ship, etc.) that required air travel, passports would be needed.

You can keep up-to-date on current passport regulations at www. travel.state.gov . It normally takes 6-8 weeks to get a passport, so if it's something you're considering, make sure you allow enough time to receive them prior to your sailing. Please make sure to keep checking to see if passport regulations change before you plan to sail.

I hope you'll be able to find a cruise that fits perfectly with the time frame you're looking for. Your girls are at great ages to cruise - they're going to have a blast!

Please let us know if you have further questions as you plan - we're happy to help! - Diane W.
