We are considering adding the Table Service dining plan to our next trip. It list that at certain meals you get an entree, dessert and drink. My questions is can we get an appetizer instead of a dessert?

    Hi Nicole!

Welcome to planDisney where we invite you to pull up a chair, as the panel proudly presents. . your answer!  Here you're always welcome to be our guest and today you brought a question about one of my favorite topics - dining at Walt Disney World Resort!

The Disney Dining Plan is a great choice for guests looking to pre-pay for many of your meals which will give your vacation more of an all-inclusive feel.  On the Disney Dining Plan, each guest will receive one Table-Service meal, one Quick-Service meal, and one snack or non-alcoholic beverage per night of their vacation package as well as a Resort-Refillable mug that can be used throughout their stay.  Table-Service meals on the Disney Dining Plan include an entree, dessert, and beverage selection.

Nicole, I've heard some conflicting answers to your question so I chatted with a Cast Member to try and find you the most accurate information.  According to the Cast Member I spoke with, swapping a dessert for an appetizer is at the discretion of the restaurant.  This would explain why I've heard stories of some restaurants allowing it and others not.  I know that may not be the clear-cut answer you were hoping for, so my recommendation when determining whether or not to add the Disney Dining Plan to your vacation package is to plan that each Table-Service meal will be the stated entree, dessert, and beverage.  If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, you are always welcome to ask your server if a swap would be available.

I see the last petal is about to fall on your vacation countdown and I hope your excitement is continuing to grow!  If you are planning to enjoy any Table-Service restaurants, don't forget to make those advanced dining reservations to secure your seats.  I always recommend continuing to check back if you haven't been able to grab a must-do restaurant just yet.  As plans change for other guests, you may find that there is something there that wasn't there before!  You can also check walk-up availability from your My Disney Experience Mobile App while you're in the parks or around the resort.

Nicole, I hope you have a Walt Disney World Resort vacation full of all of the adventure that you've dreamed of!  If you have any other vacation planning questions, please stop by and see us again here at planDisney!

    Cheers,
    Kristi
