What is considered rope drop for each park? Is it typically 1 hour before?

Hello Wayfinder Kim and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

I’m so excited to see how far you will go during your upcoming visit to Walt Disney World Resort! It was my dad who taught me what it meant to “rope-drop”. Since then it has become a passed on family tradition to always rope-drop. Rope-dropping is the act of being in the Theme Parks right before or as the park officially opens. Be sure to check the park hours on the dates you will be visiting to see what the official park operating times are. We find that being in the parks as soon as they open really helps maximize our time while visiting. We are usually able to ride many attractions and meet some of our favorite pals before lunch time!

If you are staying at a Disney Resort Hotel, complimentary resort transportation between the parks and your Disney Resort Hotel, generally begins running about 45 minutes prior to the park’s opening time. My family is typically on that first bus out and we are usually in the theme park before the official rope-drop time. If you are wanting to be there for rope-drop, I recommend giving yourself plenty of time to catch a bus, boat, Monorail, or even the Disney Skyliner to make sure you arrive before the park opens.

Have a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow!
