Hi there, and welcome to planDisney! We’re so glad you’re here and sent in this question. Let me first say thank you for your family’s service! There are several options for military discounts, so let’s take a look at which ones you may qualify for.
There are currently two different types of military discounts on theme park tickets, which include the promotional Disney Military Salute tickets and the non-promotional discounted military tickets. In order to qualify for the
Disney Military Salute tickets (which this year also includes the Disney Celebrates America Military Salute tickets), you must have a valid Uniformed Services ID card. Eligible service members include active duty, retirees, and 100% disabled veterans, as well as their spouses. Without a valid military ID, unfortunately the DD214 will not be enough to qualify for these tickets.
The good news is that you may qualify for the non-promotional military discounted tickets. These can only be purchased at a local military base or the
Shades of Green Resort. If your husband’s discharge status does not qualify you for base access, you’ll need to purchase those tickets at the Shades of Green. It’s important to read
their policies about qualifying. Generally speaking, if you qualify to stay at the Shades of Green, you can also purchase tickets there. If your only qualifying paperwork is the DD214, you will only be eligible to stay and purchase tickets in January or September. You can contact the Shades of Green for more information on your eligibility. The non-promotional military discounted tickets they offer are about 10-20% of the regular cost of theme park admission, depending upon the dates and number of days you purchase.
I hope this helps you navigate your options as a military family! If you have any more questions,
stop back by and see me. I’m always here to help and love adding extra pixie dust to your vacation planning!
Your pal,
Casey
