I am confused at why luggage tags are not mailed out. We are flying and are going to need luggage tags going not just coming back. This is disappointing, because as a child it was always magical to attach that tag to my bag before my vacation.

    Welcome, Jodi!

Thank you for bringing your concern to planDisney, we’re here to help you understand all the intricacies of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation and to help you have the most magical time! I understand that the details help make your trip memorable, and carrying on traditions from your own childhood trips is also a very special part of any Disney vacation.  I’m happy to help talk through the current situation with complimentary luggage tags with you.

Currently, complimentary luggage tags are sent to eligible Guests who have purchased a Walt Disney World Travel Company vacation package – a package includes theme park tickets, Disney Resorts Collection resort reservations, and possibly airfare bundled together for one price. Tags are mailed out approximately two weeks prior to your planned arrival, but there are many factors that could affect this such as booking through a travel agent (sometimes they receive the tags) or other aspects of the mail service or your specific reservation details. If you are eligible to receive a luggage tag and do not receive one, please inquire at the front desk of your Disney Resorts Collection hotel upon arrival.

Please know that these tags are not required for your flights, as there is no longer a luggage service from the Orlando International Airport (MCO) to your Disney resort, as it was in past years with Disney’s Magical Express providing luggage tags which indicated that your bag should be handled separately and meet you at the resort. These new tags would offer identification and a fun touch of whimsy and nostalgia to your bag as you enjoyed them as a child, but do not offer any practical required use during travel now.

For my family, each Walt Disney World Resort vacation is a balance of traditions (either made as a family in recent years or carried on from our childhoods) and new things to experience. I suggest you find an additional detail of your special trip that you can continue to carry on with your own children as part of your special memories from this trip. Perhaps you ordered MagicBands? These are a fun modern way to signal the trip is almost here when that magical mailing arrives at your home and are a key accessory throughout your stay. Some traditions can also be intangible, such as a standard activity you always do first or last on the vacation together. I know your family will make some new special memories together on this trip and form new traditions that your children will fondly remember for years to come! You are doing a wonderful thing for them by planning this amazing vacation, and they will remember details that you wouldn’t have realized which become so special to them. YOU are the magic!

Please let us know if you have any additional questions as you finalize your trip.

Wishing you a practically perfect vacation,
    Amy
