We are so confused. We joined DVC a year ago but no one explained to us that we have to spend an extra $95 every time we use our points at resorts outside of Disney in addition to paying for our membership in full and dues. What is RCI?

Michele, I'm sorry for the confusion. I contacted DVC to ensure I give you the correct information.

There is a non-refundable administrative fee of $95 for each exchange through the World Passport Collection or confirmed reservation through the Disney Collection (except Disneyland Resort hotels in California and Tokyo and campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground in Florida) and Concierge Collection.

The fee is covered at closing as part of the Product Understanding Checklist. I don't remember half of what was stated when we were closing. I was exhilarated to become a DVC Member and was busy planning how I would use my points.

The fees are subject to change. In the past, California and Tokyo required the fee but no longer do. The fee is also collected for some modifications.  I experienced this first hand. We had a reservation at Grand Floridian but then changed the date. We paid the $95 fee twice. I didn't enjoy paying the fee twice but our time at the Grand Floridian is always amazing so I have no regrets.

The payment for the Membership is specifically for the home resort, and subsequent dues for upkeep of the home resort. They are entirely separate from the other Member benefits.

For further details, you can review the Member Benefits Guide which can be viewed and printed from the DVC Member website.

Regarding RCI, it is a timeshare program. DVC Members have access to several of their resorts. I would love to tell you more but I am limited on the amount of information I can include in each answer. If you have further questions about RCI (or anything related to DVC) please let me know. We have been members since 1997 and have experienced so much over the years. I want to help you so you can enjoy and maximize your membership.
