Hi I have a concern. I have MS so I would need a scooter. Could I get one at the wilderness campgrounds and the park? And what kind of special treatment will I have because I am able to stand and walk short distances but I would not be able to stand ?

Hi Lisa! The Fort Wilderness campgrounds is considered one of the great Walt Disney World resorts therefore you are able to plan in advance to have a scooter company drop off a wheelchair or an ECV at the front check-in desk. It can be there when you arrive and you can drop it off there when you leave making it very convenient. If you choose another company beyond the five that Disney has authorized you would have to be present for the delivery and pick-up. A recommended company is Buena Vista Scooters.

Your ECVs must be 32"x48" to be used on the Disney transportation vehicles. I will say that using an ECV on the boats from Fort Wilderness to the Magic Kingdom can take some careful maneuvering so please be sure you can handle such a vehicle on your own or you have help along to assist you. Getting an ECV on a bus is easier but it takes a lengthy time to get on and off each time so your trip will be much longer then usual.

Rental cost for an ECV in each park is about $50 plus a $20 refundable deposit when it is returned. My sister in law has MS and she has found that using a regular wheelchair is often so much more convenient to get around. She enjoys the exercise now and then and will simply push the empty chair when she walks. If you are traveling with someone then perhaps this is another great option for you. When the parks are busy the ECVs can be more difficult then a regular wheel chair so it is something to consider.
