We are coming to WDW 1/28 - 2/4/12 - it is my 8 year old daughter 's 1st visit. I originally booked a savannah view at AKL, but now I'm wondering if I should switch to the Poly? I'm very concerned about long travel times to and from AKL. Help!”
Hi Suzanne:
This is a very tough call. The Polynesian has a relaxing tropical feel, a great pool, proximity to the Parks, and great restaurants. There is no doubt that the Polynesian has big transportation advantages over the Animal Kingdom Lodge since it is right on the monorail.
My family, which includes two young boys, loves the Animal Kingdom Lodge. While I'm partial to the benefits and amenities of Animal Kingdom Lodge, such as the savanna views, the dining, and the kid and family activities, the resort is sliiiightly further away from three of the parks than many other Disney properties. That being said, for me, the benefits outweigh the extra minutes we may spend on the bus.
Upon entering the Animal Kingdom Lodge, your family will be mesmerized by the dramatic lobby expertly themed and filled with African artwork, artifacts, a fireplace (at Jambo House), and huge windows. The pools are great at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House is home to the 11,000 square foot Uzima pool. The pool boasts a 67-foot slide as well as a tyke-friendly wading pool area. Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani Village is home to the wonderful Samawati Springs pool and kids water playground. As you check in, request an activity guide from the front desk for a schedule of organized activities. Although subject to change, we found the following programs, among many others, available: ceramics, cookie decorating, animal tracking, pin trading, and trivia.
You cannot go wrong with either option. Since you have a savanna view, I would strongly consider keeping your Animal Kingdom Lodge reservation. My boys love looking at the animals right outside of their window. However, if you think better transportation outweighs such a unique experience, then I would make the switch. Hopefully you can make two trips in the coming years and experience both options.
