Coming to WDW 12/6-12/13. On a tight budget. Will we be missing out if we skip MVMCP? A lot of reviews said it was hard to get into x-mas shows due to crowds. Don't want to spend $ just for more ride time.

    Christy:

O.K. I feel the flame-throwers may hit me on this one.  But like you, our family of six is on a budget, so I'm sensitive to folks who want an honest opinion about whether their Disney dollar is well spent.  And on the topic of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, I have to say, I've been three times and feel it is not in my category of "must-do's."

The lure of free cookies & hot chocolate along with "snow" on Main Street, hooked me the first time.  But I was sorely disappointed at the store-bought cookies and long lines for the all-you-can-drink cocoa.  Living in South Mississippi, I had really anticipated the snow (like a kid), but the scant flurries were nice, but not impactful.

For my second party, I knew going in not to concentrate on the cookies--we took in the shows and parade.  As for the show, unless you have close seats, it wasn't memorable.  It took my third party, last December, to see a few things I'd missed: the smell of Goofy's Candy Machine in the parade, the 180 degree/surround fireworks of Wishes (which I think you can probably only appreciate from the train station), and, yes, riding the rides with less crowds.

Is it fun? absolutely.  Is it worth it?  That's relative to your budget.  If you're on a tight budget?  Probably not.  The money you save might be worth spending on a memorable meal together, even a fireworks cruise, rather than just more time in the parks with a little longer parade and louder fireworks.

Meet the Panelist: Whitney, Mississippi

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
