Coming to WDW Nov 2011 with my 3.5 yr old daughter. I was interested in the Backyard BBQ or the Hoop Dee Do Review. They are listed as dinner shows, but the BBQ says it has Mickey and friends. Is the BBQ not considerd character dining? Staying Contemp.

    Hi Julie,

You are looking at two fun options for your November trip! I love character meals. Most character dining locations involved characters coming around to tables during your meal. They sign autographs, pose for pictures and interact with Guests for a few minutes. Mickey's Backyard BBQ goes beyond that by offering a meal with a night of interactive entertainment.

There are two hosts for the evening, Cyclone Sally and Tumbleweed Will that entertain with their wit & humor while encouraging Guests to dance & enjoy the party. There is one main dance floor and two smaller ones where characters dance with Guests. Characters are always subject to change but the last time I was there Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale appeared all in their western & BBQ attire.

A live band provides the music for the evening by performing popular country tunes. There is also a trick roping demonstration - pretty impressive - and he brings up a couple of kids from the audience to assist.  At the end of the evening, all of the performers and characters gather for the grand finale.

My boys love this experience & I've always enjoyed it too.

I recently answered a question about the Hoop-De-Doo Musical Revue for a Guest with a 3 year old - click here.  I love both of these experiences & highly recommend both of them. But if I had to choose one for a 3.5 year old, I'd go with Mickey's Backyard BBQ now and Hoop-De-Doo Musical Revue in a couple of years.

Please let me know if you need more information on either.  Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
